Head gasket

Hi all, I noticed about 2 weeks ago a little wetness on the drivers side of the block. Took it in today to have my mechanic look at it and make sure what I thought was right. Turns out the head gasket is leaking on drivers side. NOt bad yet, no drip but, not good. The guys there told me just to keep driving till it starts getting worse and keep an eye on it. I think they were saying somthing like 20 hrs to fix. Anyone do it on there own, how intensive of a fix is it? This just sucks. Truck is a 2003 f150 supercrew xlt, 5.4, 3.55 limited slip, 4x4, k&n intake, hypertech programmer, gibson catback exhaust, 116,700 miles on it. I also have the wonderfull cracking paint on this one too. I like fords always have but it would be nice if they would back up their product on the known problems out there. Thanks

If it was mine I wouldn't ****** a head for a seepage. I'd drain the coolant, double up on Bars Leaks, and run it until it sealed. It's eight years old so my goal would be to get as much use out of the engine as practical rather than put money into it.

That also buys time to hunt down another engine if you really like the truck. Coming from a "used car lot" background I prefer to swap major assemblies because it tends to be much cheaper than opening them for surgery and finding more problems.
