Well, I'll start with the vehicle info:
88 Ford Bronco XLT
5.0 EFI
AOD Transmission
Went to start my truck, turned on my headlights, turned the key, lights dimmed for a split second and then stopped. Key goes all the way forward, nothing.
Grabbed the ignition rod with some needle nose and shoved it forward with the key on, nothing.
Tried to shift into neutral when the tow truck got there, It would only go between P and R.
Last time this happened it was an ignition actuator.
Tore the column apart, actuator is in one piece. Cycled it, works fine. Moved it into another position and the gear selector works.
My next thought is ignition switch, and I was told it may be the neutral safety switch.
What do you guys think, what should I check first, and how can I go about doing so?
I would start by jumping the start solinoid to find out if the starter works..then try the linkage to see if it is bound up ....I had a linkage stick befor and found my cab mounts had collapsed over time and things just wore out and jammed..good luck I am sure others will be in on this soon..
What he said. Jump the solenoid to check for that first. its a easy quick way to figure it out before getting into more complex parts. Mine went out a week ago and 15 bux later I was back on the road.
