5.4 interchange

I bought a 97 e-150 for parts. It has a 5.4 with 105k and seems to run really well. I have found several expeditions that need engines. Anything I should know before I pick one of them up?

The '97-'98 5.4L was a non-PI head engine. It uses a much more restrictive intake manifold, and milder cams that produce a bit more torque down low, but that limits the power production. You'll need to put it in a '97-'98 Expy in order for it to be a direct swap.

I am a diesel guy, so dont know much about these modular gassers....

97-98 non pi were 230hp and 99-? are 260, correct? Will my 97 engine bolt in and harness hook up to a 99+expy and run fine? If not, is it as simple as getting a pcm from a 97-98 expy?

What about transmissions? When did they go from e40d's to 4r100's?

As far as powerstroke vans and trucks with 4r100's go, the pcm's are not interchangeable because the pcm gets trans info different. The vans have a speedo gear, and the trucks don't.

The 97 e150 pcm is PUU5/mlc-211.

ON EDIT-if the 99+ expys have 4r100s, and the earlier have e4's, i am guessing I couldn't put a later pcm in an earlier truck.....
