Ok, I know this is really kinda a dumb question, but I actually don't know this. What is the difference between the Ignition Control Module and the Voltage Regulator? I assume the ICM is what I have mounted on the inner fender on my driver's side, wired in line with the coil. I have been told I need a new one but the various parts websites seem to have the same item called by both names!!!
Which websites??? Anyways yes the box on the fender on your drivers side is the ICM you have to make sure you match the color of the one you have there now. Where the wires go into the box there is a plastic band that is a color common ones are blue , brown , green just make sure you match the color to the new box and you are good to go!!
The ICM (Ignition Control Module) handles the electronic ignition part of the truck and yes it on the dvrs side inner fender well. 1" thick about 4" square with a round ish plug.
The voltage regulator is a square box on the passenger side by the starter solenoid and has a 4 wire flat connector handles the alternator/elec charging duties.
I am sure I explained their actual duties wrong, but that's the way I understand it.
