Haven't been around the forum much recently but need some help. Yesterday I started noticing a strange noise coming from the truck. Can't tell where it's coming from. It sounds like sand being poured out of a tube, kind of a "shshsh"ing sound. At first I thought that I had run over a plastic bag and the driveshaft was rubbing against it. The noise isn't obnoxiously loud but I can hear it even on the highway with the window down. I only hear it when the gas is being pressed. Let off of the petal, and the sound backs off to nothing but with a second or two delay. It also will sound briefly when shifting in and out of neutral or forward or reverse. The sound isn't present when the truck is in park and the engine is revved up. The sound is also not present when the truck is coasting which makes me think it isn't wheel bearings.
Truck seems to be running fine, doesn't seem to be down on power, no funny vibrations, tranny fluid looks good and smells normal.
Given that the sound is only present during throttle, but not when the truck is in park, it makes me think its tranny or driveshaft related. Anyone have any ideas? We're supposed to head out on a camping trip on Monday with a slide-in truck camper.
I figured that's what it was, but yeah I took it to a shop for confirmation and repair. One thing though, mine made the noise during coasting (as the drive shaft is still spinning without throttle) and you said that yours doesn't make the noise while coasting. Might be something more transmission related.
