Just purchased an 89' with the automatic front hubs. During the test drive everything worked worked well. The front axles engaged in both hi and low and disengaged properly. However on my way home with it when coming to a stop it feels and sounds like the drivers side axle is binding up like the hub is trying to lock up. This is the first truck Ive ever had with auto hubs so Im not sure whats going on, any ideas?
If you engaged 4WD while going forward stop, disengage and back up 20-30 feet fast enough for cylindrical force to disengage the hubs. If you engaged going backward then go forward to disengage.
Most people who have been around here awhile are not fans of the auto hubs and prefer MileMarker or Warn manuals. However, I have not gotten around to replacing my autos yet.
Try it several times off payment. It may just need use to loosen up.
Not a fan of auto hubs either and its been a few years since Ive had a 4x4 also, so I have to get reacquainted. The axle doesnt do it all the time though I can make a few stops and its drama free. Go on down the road a bit and make another stop and then the drivers axle seems to bind, drag.Im wondering if it may be the hub bearings
