On mine there are two connectors against the firewall under the master cylinder. Wires in each of them go to the solenoid pack and MLPS harness. Also check and clean the connector to the PCM (Computer).

Checked the plug on the transmission tonight and was getting 12v on both wires at the plug. I did notice the connector was COVERED in sand, dirt, grit so I can not say for sure if it was making a good connection to the tranny. Went to wally world and got some brake dust cleaner and will clean the connections tomorrow. Would have done more with it tonight but it has been raining all afternoon. Gotta love Florida weather this time of year...

You did not mention it so let me ask if you have dielectric grease for the connectors? I use electrical cleaner but don't think brake cleaner will hurt.

Again be careful with the solenoid connector. Push in on the bottom tab in the middle and pull up from the top which is hard to do.

Send rain, send rain , send rain

I will pick up some dielectric greese on my lunch break and use that as well. I did remove the plug, and put it back on last night thinking just by doing that it would clean up some of the contacts enough to work. I cleared the codes before doing that and then started the truck. This time the check engine light came on almost immediatly again and the OD light on the shifter started blinking steadily. I don't remembering it doing that before but honestly i could have just missed it. I have a feeling it's going to be a bad silenoid. The linkage parts I need to hook up the shift cable will be here today so I won't have to have my buddy laying under the truck switching gears for me anymore.

noticed a HUGE crack in the distributor cap last night and the engine was running like crap so picked up a new one of those, new rotor, and a new coil just to be safe. Got a fuel filter too.

I sold an old 2wd truck I had to fund this project and have just about enough money left over to get a used tranny. With a silenoid pack running about 200.00 and a used tranny running about 550 I am not sure which way to go. This tranny pulls hard and doesn't slip at all in any of the gears and supposedly it was rebuild not too long ago so maybe troubleshooting this one furthur is the way to go...

90% of the time it is a bad sensor or solenoid. Not to say yours isn't in the 10% where the mechanicals are bad but it sure sounds like just the solenoids. Its a gamble either way really.

E4OD

You might consider looking at ECMTOGO.com then call Johnny in Houston.

My six month E4OD story: Replaced MLPS, VSS, TPS, solenoid pack twice, removed harness and tested every wire, cleaned connectors several times, replaced solenoid connector, took to transmission shop and they diagnosed it as computer which they hunted a month for. I sent computer in for testing. They repaired it and everything is like a new truck for $195 +shipping.

Now I have two extra solenoid packs, MLPS, VSS,TPS.

And the saga continues. Well when I said the truck was running like crap it turns out the fuel pump was dying. Now when you turn on the ignition you just hear the pump running steady trying to charge the fuel system instead of the usual 1-2 seconds. checked the fuel line at the fuel rail and with the truck on it's barely pumping. Also changed the fuel filter just to be sure. So first things first, I need to get the truck running again before messing with the tranny.

I doubt the internals are bad on the tranny as it goes into each gear and isn't slipping or anything like that. I was thinking once I get the linkage back in and the truck running, I would just take it to a shop and have them figure it out. First though, if cleaning the connectors doesn't help, I will change out the silenoid pack and see if that helps. If not then on to the pro's for a diagnosis.

I ordered a new pump and should have the truck running again this weekend assuming the pump gets here in time. Then back to work on the tranny.

f4hntn, would you be interested in selling one of those spare silenoid packs?

Hey Guys,

Sorry I haven't updated this in awhile. Turns out i took a break from the project for a bit. When I got back to it, I just happened to be surfing craigslist when I found another bronco that was in incredible shape but had a blown motor. (only 130k on it) So, to make a longer story short, I purchased another bronco and swapped the motor from the old one into this one. (motor has a rebuilt tag on it *bonus*!) All together I have about 2k invested and now I have a running truck that is just about perfect condition with no mechanical issues at all and a great parts truck including an e4od as well as a 351 that I plan on rebuilding and keeping around.

Here is the new one

Here is the two side by side

Engine going in

putting new tires on tonight, replacing the alternator and I will be on the road in a day or two. Thanks for everything guys and will be on here alot more now i am sure!!
