400ci Running rough

1981 Ford- F350 dually with the 400ci engine

I was pulling stumps out with the truck and it seemed suddenly that it doesn't want to idle properly. It also seems to have loosed a little power I think

It did get a little hot on the temp gauge when pulling stumps

I am going to check the timing because it does feel kind of like a spark issue

Which brings me onto another question. I would like to upgrade the coil to something else. Something that I can find in the junkyard. What can I used to get me a better spark?

What else can I check?

Could it be a carb issue?

Keep the same coil you have. Any other coil can be hard on the ignition box and make it get hot.

worked on the truck a little today,

put new spark plugs
cap and rotor

Still idling rough.

Checked vacuum lines and the vacuum line to the power booster for the brakes was loose.

I think it fixed it. Kind of hard to tell with the cam I have in it.

It is idling by itself again after playing with the idle screw a little

It is running better I believe with the new spark plugs

Just wanted to post the fix of the rough engine problems

I had a bad ground from the battery post to the engine. Put new cable on there and engine ran A LOT better. So I am making sure now that there is a proper ground to the battery to engine, engine to chassis, and chassis to battery. That should solve some running and electrical issues.
