New headers on the way

Well, I finally decided to fix my broken exhaust manifold bolts. So I decided that while I'm that far in, I might as well dump the logs. So, this morning I ordered a set of ceramic coated Hedman Hedders. FedEx tracking shows them getting delivered on Friday, and I'm going to try to get them installed this weekend. Now, I've got a couple of quick questions.

First, a tuner from 5-Star is on my to-do list, but it will have to wait a little. So I was wondering if the trucks computer would adapt to the headers, and how long that should take.

And second, do you guys have any tips or tricks for the install, or is it pretty straight forward?

AK,

Let us know how the install goes. I would love to put headers on but I'm not sure I'm prepared to deal with all the things necessary to do so (like notching the frame).

Shouldn't be any notching necessary with the Hedman units. I hope...

Woohoo! My new headers arrived today! The install begins tomorrow, as long as it's not pouring rain.

Hmmm.... I wonder if the two piece manifold flange on the left side means I don't have to remove the dipstick tube?

Got the manifolds and y-pipe out. I removed everything as one unit. Had to drop the driveline at the axle to get it out. Took about an hour and a half. There were 10 broken studs. I twisted one more off with just a little force. Now I have to get them out and I can start the install.

I wish you luck with the studs, will probably take the longest. Headers look good.

Had to run an errand. Took me away from the project for about an hour and a half. Got back at it three hours ago. I welded nuts on all the studs. Eight of them spun right out with no problems. But it took me almost two hours to get the last three. They just kept breaking my welds and spinning the nuts off. I finally dug up a few castle nuts and was able to get enough meat on the welds to turn the studs. And holy cow they were tight. I never thought they were going to break loose. And when I finally got them free, they were a bear to spin 'em out. But, the hard part is done. So I'm gonna take another break and get something to eat before I start the install. That part shouldn't take too long.

Got the heads cleaned up with a wire brush and have both sides sitting in place for a test fit. Was getting ready to slide the y-pipe in place and it started raining. So, I had to put the tools away and button everything up for the night. I'm pretty happy with how everything fits so far. And I did manage to take a few pictures before the sky split open and started dumping buckets. Will post again shortly.

Old manifolds and y-pipe removed.

After the studs were removed.

New Hedman Hedder test fit on left side.

Hopefully this rain will stop and I can finish the install tomorrow.

I think the Y-pipe is part of the kit for these headers. I looked at the same kit.
