I know this has been done to death, but on my '08 F250 XL I can't seem to get the truck to enter into the programming mode to program some fobs to it. I've done the cycling business and the best I get is a flashing light on the dash of the truck with a little lock on it, but nothing else. Can you not program the XL? Is there a major step I am missing?
I don't know about an 08 but I programmed 4 fobs on my 11 and it worked smooth.... Ask your dealer what you are doing wrong. You must program all at the same time not just an extra....
According to the 2008 Order Guide, to get keyless entry you had to have the Advanced Security Group and it was only available on the XLT, Lariat, and King Ranch. It was standard on the Lariat and KR but optional on the XLT. No availability on the XL.
So I would say that your truck doesn't have the capability to add it.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but, I've tried everything to get the keyless remotes to program. I've tried cycling the ignition, locking and unlocking the doors, I even disconnected both batteries to no avail. What am I doing wrong? How can tell if my truck has this "Advanced Security Group" thingy?
Follow the key fob programming instructions in your Owner's Manual. Make sure you do every step exactly like it says. If the door locks cycle, it's entered programming mode and you can program the key fobs. If they don't, you don't have the RKE option.

I collect them from totaled or salvage vehicles.
I currently have 5 three button and 4 four button fobs extra.
PM or E-mail me and I'll see what we can work out.

Yeah, I tried that (I think I'm doing it right). I even tried disconnecting the batteries and then re-connecting them. Nothing. I have an XLT. Was the RKE an option on 06 XLT's? I had 2, 2000 f-350 lariats and they both had it.
Disconnecting the batteries isn't going to do anything. Dancing the Can Can nude around the truck isn't going to do anything. If the truck won't enter the programming mode (indicated by the doors locking and unlocking) then there are only two possibilities, you aren't following the steps right, or the truck doesn't have RKE.
RKE was an option on an XLT, but only an option, not all trucks have it. I suspect if you have RKE, you would also have a wired keypad on the door. But I don't know that for sure.
I repeat the part about following the steps right because more than a few people have missed a small step (like making sure the doors are locked electronically before starting), or are cycling the key between the wrong positions (2 and 3, not 3 and 4) or aren't doing it enough times, or something similar, and can't figure out why it won't go into programming mode. You have to follow the steps exactly.
