1986!

Last year of production, most bugs gone.

nice even number. An 81 or 83 would make me not like the truck as much. OCD or something.

sterling axles

I have one!

reasons to not like the others

swiss cheese frame, odd number year, 400 instead of 460, harder to find parts as it seems there are way more 84-86 trucks that 80-83.

This comes from someone with an 86 f250 xlt lariat and a 1984 f150 base. Both 4x4. 460 and 351w respectively.

Thumbs up My Work Truck

Well, Mine ain't too nice, but it's never let me down. Has almost 300000 on it now. My Great-Grandpa bought it in October of '85 and it has been with us since doing work truck stuff. We haul round bales, cattle, feed bags, anything that'll fit in the back. Has the best engine ever built in it, the 4.9 I6 that has had a little work done on it when we put new gaskets in it, put's out about 170 horse and more torque than it would ever need. The Suspention is wore out from the constant overloading, but I still drive it every day. It's a 4 speed Borg-Warner ultra low manual. My Great-Grandpa was never one for 4-wheel drives because his neighbor's '72 tore everything all up, so thus the 2-wheel drive. Not a thing really wrong with the old truck, a little rattle and the tailgate doesn't open real nice, but if that's all then it must be a good truck.

Not too nice, but it has earned an honest living

Those are part of the grill guard which is aftermarket. It looks identical to the one I had on my '84, manufactured by Luverne Truck Equipment:

I still have it but I took it off when I restored the truck because the chrome was a little rusty.

And here's the same truck as it looks now:

Next on the list is a Dana 60 solid axle swap. I have all the stuff to do it...just waiting for warmer weather since I don't have a heated shop at home.

Bill,

I'm admiring your truck and particularly your front bumper Grill guard, I've been looking for the exact same one for my 81 Bronco (same color scheme as your truck).

I'm wondering about having someone locally make one as I cant find them and they don't look overly complicated. Can you tell me if you purchased yours new or used, and what make it is? I wish I was closer I would drive over and take some measurements for my fabricator
