I'm taking the old injectors out of my 94 IDI turbo. The injector that is next to the fuel filter seems to be sized up. I can't seem to budge it but I haven't really torqued down on it yet for fear of screwing something up! What should I do? Should I just put a cheater bar on the ratchet and bear down on it or what?
Pending hearing better advice I would get some Seafoam deep creep and spray it around the base.
Try to torque it back and forth to get the stuff moving into it and let sit, try again.
I would use an impact wrench if you have one!! Not much you can screw up the worst that will happen is the injector will unscrew in two pieces and that is pretty easy to remove.
I finally got it out! It took me, my dad, a can of PB parts blaster, an impact gun, (weak one though), a boxed in wrench and a 4 pound hammer to get it out! There was so much carbon build up on the injector and in the hole that I seriously doubt this injector was working at all, which would explain why my truck had no power! I'll post pics of the injector and inside the hole in a few.
Next time if the injector separates on removal grind the top outer threads off. Reinstall the top on the injector now it can be turned to assist in the breaking loose of the injector...... Remember what ever falls or pours into the cylinder... fluid or carbon so as to avoid a hydraulic lock rotate the engine with the starter prior to re installation of the new injector.
I read about that injector removal trick on oil burners last nite. I did rotate the engine with the starter before I installed the new injectors hoping to blow anything that may have fell down into the combustion chamber out.
