Blown Head Gasket if not fixed the engine will hydro lock or leak enough coolant into the oil to ruin the engine.

go to Auto Zone and get a bottle of BARS copper head gasket sealer. It will mix with the antifreeze. Pour it in and see what happens, I have VERY good luck and it only cost you $10 to try.

I am sure steve knows his stuff, hes been around here a lot. With that said do that if you want. I am a mechanic by trade though. I will not put that crap anywhere near anything I own. It does what it says, it stops leaks. With that said, what do you think it is doing to the rest of your cooling system? IE inside the block etc, the heater core, and your radiator? If you intend to keep your truck, get it fixed right. If you can't justify spending that on it, send it packing, but don't patch it and screw the next guy. Tell them whats wrong with it. Someone like me (or any mechanic) that has the time and wants to mess with it can fix it theirself for not a lot of jack. On the other hand though, paying someone parts and labor to replace head gaskets can FAST make you want to trade a truck that age off.....

The only two leak sealers I use that work are Blue Devil head gasket repair $65.00 or K Seal $ 20.00 both work well and are used a lot to repair the crack issues we have with CAT engines at work.

thank you! i had a feeling it was the head gasket, but its been doing this for about a year now? and i plan on keeping the truck. so, with that being said whats the worst that could go wrong with using the antifreeze mixtures? like how much more could it ruin? and if i fix the head gasket is there anything else i should replace while the engine is still out? (no major repairs in the 11 years ive had the truck) i just dont want pull the engine and put it back just to have something else go bad ya know?

i had an external leak in the water manifold gasket and overheated the engine. Replaced the gasket, then noted a small water usage over time. Believe that is the head gasket or small crack. I used the block sealer and it worked. Wee later i had a small problem with thermostat. Took it out and the sealer had plugged the very small weep hole that allows water the weep thru and warm up the thermostat, etc. I took the little ball out of the thermostat weep hole and reinstalled. That was 2 years ago. Sealer will not effect the heater core or plug up he passages in the motor. It is looking for a pressure drop, normally to atmosphere like a leak into the combustion chamber or external thru a gasket. It is not looking for constant water flow thru a tube like water passage or heater core. My heater works great 2 years later. YOu leave the stuff in forever to keep fixing any small leak that reoccurs. The copper BARS is really good stuff. TRy it , you will be suprised... this is not the old metal flakes or grease ***** that were common "sealers" 20 years ago.

alrighty, so yer saying the worst that can happen is i have to change the thermostat? seems like an ok handoff. But i have another question. I had just changed the oil not to long ago and it didnt look milky or anything...It wasnt a milky brown or light brown or anything, it just looked like good oil. If the headgasket was blown wouldnt the oil be milky when i change it?

no, the antifreeze goes into the combustion chamber. You might have a rough idle in the morning if a spoonfull of antifreeze leaked in over night. Possibly you get bubbles into the radiator overflow tank also from the cumbustion chamber. Try the BARS, you will be suprised.

take off the top radiator hose at the radiator and pour the bottle into the hose and reinstall. dont add to the overflow tank. takes too long to get into the system. The stuff will seal the hole 5 minutes after the motor is warm and the thermostat opens. Drive around town....
