might have somebody crank it for you while your checking fuel pressure. have you checked all your maxi fuses (#22)? im sure you have checked and rechecked all your connections
if it was mine I would lay a clean rag with diesel on it over the air filter and see it it will fire, just to rule out it being a fuel issue? wal mart sells a 0bd II scanner for $100 unless you can find someone who has one
For it to shut down like someone turned the key off means there's something going on causing the IDM or PCM to shut the truck down. Electrical shorts or bad sensors can cause this type of thing. Where did you get the CPS from? We've seen weird stuff like this from the aftermarket ones from the parts stores.
After it stalls and won't restart, does the tach move while cranking? Is the CPS wiring in good shape? Since you don't have a scanner, it might be helpful to get watch the oil pressure in the head while cranking. You could either plumb a gauge into the ICP hole (or one of the other holes) or maybe monitor voltage or ohms on the ICP sensor. I'll have to look and see if I can find the chart that shows what reading means what pressure from the ICP
If you hold the ICP connector looking into it with the latch on top, the left pin is Vref, center is ICP signal, and right is Signal return. The corresponding wire colors should be brown/white, dark blue/light green, and grey/red.
Read the signal return
You need a minimum of .83v for starting (that would be about 500 psi). At key on, you should get a .25v to .4v signal. Operational range for the sensor is .65v to 3.25v. Some approximate pressures compared to voltage signal would be:
500psi = about .85-.87v
1000psi = about 1.4v
1800psi = about 2.3v
2400psi = about 3v
3000psi = about 3.8v
i have found the problem the tach was moving when i turned it over but the other part of the cps was bad replaced it and runs like a champ thanks for all the help
