Sparkplug/cop question
I'm getting ready to change my plugs and cops, owner manual specifies platinum plugs. I was looking at Iridium plugs and got to wondering if they would work, if they would make a difference in my engine performance, or if they are just another gimmick to make you spend
$3 more per plug.
I'm looking at buying the autolite cops from autozone...I know there are lots of opinions on here and that a lot of people recommend Motorcraft only for both coils & plugs, but I just can't afford the Motorcraft cops.
I changed out the #4 & #6 with autolite last year, now I'd like to replace all 8, keep the used ones for spares.
Any input?

....On the plug question, the plats and that grade of plug is made of harder higher temperature metals for longer lasting time periods.
....Regular plugs will work fine but should be changed more often. If you do that, performance level will remain higher for the effort vs leaving plugs in place over a lot of miles just to get out of changing them more often.
...There is no benifit to power performance otherwise.
...On coils the issue is quality over time.
...Many aftermarket coils are questionable for quality.
...Take you chances.
...I would expect Autolite to be reasonable but you never know.
...The Ford OEM are used in production so you have to use them as the bases of assuming a quality level against others you can only take a chance on.
...For example the ACCELS are made in China and have a very high failure rate so don't save anything in the end when they fail and the hassle you have before finally going back to OEM adding up the total outlay in time and cost.
