hey all, i have a 92 f150 4.9l reg cab, i have ingnition prolbems frist i want to say what i have replace then go from there , i replace the distributor & cap & rortor button brand new and ingnition coil new i have 2 ICM that check out good at autozone, some time the truck will start and some times it will crank for 1 or2 hours befoe it will start, when we get a good hard rain is when it dont want to start, i have replace everthing i can think of in the Ingition system even tryed to hot wire it wont work {old school} when it wont start i have no fire at the coil or dist, key is on fuel pump working all lights lightup but no spark form the ing coil, after checking every thing i can think of and cranking it for ever it will start to hit the run but with a bad jerking miss then smooth out and run smoth except for a small miss in it tps i supect?? this is on cold start too, once it get's runing it does all right. the only thing i havent check yet is the streeing collom for something bad there IDK. replced the key switch but it done this befor i did that. what else could cause this to not to get fire to the coil/ ignition. but like i said it dosent do this all the time mostley after it rain's hard, i can drive it a a storn lot;s of rain dosent bother it, but if it rain's over night while parked ya can bet it wont start, no the cap and button in not getting wet. I am at the end of my rope on it PLEASE HELP.... Thanks

 

Does the truck have any codes? You need to check fuel pressure as well. Pump could be going out, have you replaced fuel filter. What about plugs? Have you checked wig a multimeter and made sure you aren't getting current at the dizzy and/or coil?

 

Fuel pump is running went thru all that the problem is NO fire coming out of the coil when it act's up long as t is dry mostly it will run and yes i have codesthat old of a truck it going to have them the code i retried is 32 73 33 45 42 22. the guy i got it off replaced the fuel pump 5 times from autozone with in 2 days LOL new fuel filter too i even took the gas tank off and fixed the screen he left turned the wrong way it showed 1/4 tank of gas and be empty, tank is clean i whiped it out no dirt or rust in it. it sometime just not getting fire from the coil to the distributor. ya got to monkey with it for awile then it will fire up and run like keep craning it and so on, could the reset switch for the fuel pump cause that or the key switch ? all the ignition has been replaced evething new dist coil & ICM on fender?? what else is there.. i got a grimlim in it lol

 

Are there new plug wires on it too?

 

yes new plug wires too. It must have somthing grounding out after rain, it set in the driveway if it rains it dont start for awhile i have driven it in the rain and never had a problem out of it it run IDK, lol and yes i will repost if i figure out what it is.

 

well sorry for such a long time getting back on this post but the truck is running fine now it starts eveytime even in the rain i replaced the ing system but it still woulden start after it rained. but i seen a post somewhere where the guy would press the gas pettle down about 4 time so i tryed it it begain to start run rough at frist but then smooth out. did that for about a week and noe it starts just like it suopsed to. DIK what fixed it but it run great. give it to my dauther and got me a 95 modle that has a transmission prob i posted a thread about it. thanks guy for your input on the truck. this is a cool place to find answers again thanks..
