Everyone on FTE is always very helpful when anyone has a question or problem. I have found this site to be very informative. I have learned allot by reading threads and asking questions. And will continue to do so.
Every time someone asks for advice on buying a Superduty 6.0 they all get the same answer. Read the thread for new owners and get the Oasis report to see what has been done to the truck as far as service and warranty issues. I have a couple questions about the Oasis report.
My first question is this. Hypothetically say I was looking at 2 different trucks from 2 different dealers. Both are the comparable to each other as far as trim level, mileage, price, year etc... I get the Oasis report on both trucks. Both trucks seem to have been serviced regularly. Truck A. has really not had any warranty work done maybe a couple small things. Truck B. has had warranty work done like EGR Cooler, Head Gaskets, Oil Cooler etc...
Which truck would you recommend getting? Would it be the one with that has had the warranty work done to it with the logic that since it has been a problem and is now fixed you don't have as much to worry about. Or would it be the one that hasn't had the normal 6.0 problems with the logic that the truck must have been taken care of better buy the owner, was just lucky or something like that.
2nd question is what are you looking for on the Oasis report as far as RED Flags? Some of you may know from previous threads that I am looking at getting a 05-07 SD 6.0 when I get back from deployment here and I am trying to get smart on what to look for on the Oasis report so I know what is ok and what is not. That way I know when to walk away and keep looking.
Thank you again to everyone for your help and info.
I'm waiting patiently (well kind of) as I'm in the exact same purchase spot. '06 86,000 miles with no work and an '06 with 95,000 miles with coolers, short block, etc..... Both have really good EOT vs ECT though the 95,000 seems to run slightly cooler, may in the 195 - 203 degrees range, while the 86,000 under similar conditions runs about 205 - 215 degrees.
trucks with lots of issues tend to be poorly looked after.
trucks with small repair historys tend to be over all better units... unless the owner just doent car and drives it till it dies.
the more time an engine is opened up the more chance that something was not doen right as well.
same failer time and time again. things like 3 oil coolers are bad. its not hard to figure out when to run. if you have a question about it and dont have time to think about it then always decide against and move on to whats next.
