WTH? Fuel Issue

97 F250 starting loosing power and then wouldn't start. found the fuel filter really clogged, replaced filter, removed filter housing assy to fix leak, reinstalled, cleaned regulator screen. Truck starts and runs dies in about 3-5 minutes and then I can't start. Tried the next day, starts right up, dies about 3-5 minutes later. Third time a few days later starts right up same thing happens. Any one have any ideas? Could it be the fuel pump? Maybe I need to check and or change the oil, I heard the oil can be critical for the injectors working right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

and

Bleed the air with the schrader valve next to the FPR and check the screen on the vent return line. Make sure its clear. Located at 3 0 clock in the fuel bowl just under the filter cap.

Then check the fuel line pressure using the schrader valve mentioned and

Then what Rick said.

Ok, I finally got a fuel press gauge. Truck started right up and then while it was idling, I put the fuel press gauge on and it held a steady 40 psi and then as it always does, the engine then just cut off. The press held the whole time. It didn't sputter or anything, just like the key was turned off. I guess I should look at the o-ring on the IPR now. Any other ideas? Thanks

in the "no start" state does it smoke at all when you crank it? Also, in the "no start" state does the tach. bounce any (must have good charge or jumped from another vehicle)? It could be your CPS starting to go bad.

After it runs for its minute or two and then dies. It won't start, when cranking in this condition there is no smoke seen.

That's what I'd try first, no tach movement can lead towards the cps. Get one from ford or ih though. Only about 25 bucks.

What is the oil quality in the truck? You may have a couple issues, dying after it warms up, then starts when cooled down is an ipr oring symptom like mentioned, or could be bad oil. Could be just coincidence I guess, start with the cps and fresh oil if it isn't.

I think maybe I'm misunderstanding. What am I looking for with the tach? I thought I was looking for wild erratic tach movement. My tach was working when it died.

when you crank with good batteries or jump, does the tach move/boucne slightly?
