Head gasket?
Hi a friend of mine asked me to look at his 2001 7.3. Its pushing coolant out the resevoir cap. I am thinking that it needs head gaskets or maybe has a cracked head. Is this common on 7.3's? If anyone has done this, how many hours does it take? Thanks!

Is there oil or diesel in the expansion tank?

I would bet injector cups... What mods if any to the truck.

No mods, but its a farm truck so had a hard life.

Farm truck or not, Its very hard to pop a 7.3 headgasket on a stock truck.

had the same problem, with my 99 7.3 and it was the head gasket. took about 3.5 hours to pull and clean the heads. Don't forget to get them checked before reassemble, and go ahead and change the injector cups.

Ok, thanks for all the input. Is there anyway to rule out a crack or porosity in the block? Thats a cute baby brad!

If the block was cracked you would have coolant in your oil.

Where did he get the thermostat? Someone on here before put a short shaft stat instead of the long shaft stat and the truck keep overheating.

I didn't think to check the thermostat, no coolant in the oil so should'nt be a crack in the block. thanks

dont condemn the heads yet... several good threads here on injector cup issues and diagnosis....i am leaning to injector cups.... pull vc's take out injectors and pressure test the radiator and look inside each injector hole and look for coolant...
