Bought my first PSD couple of days ago. A 2001 F250 with the 7.3. Been loving it so far, but last night had an issue.
I put the truck in reverse, and it felt like the ebrake was on. I checked and it wasn't. It still felt like pressure, so i put the ebrake in and released it. I continued to bake up and there was a little more tension, and then something snapped. Sounded like a small branch, and i thought maybe there was a small branch behind the truck that i ran over and that is what caused the tension and snapping sound. Nope nothing was there.
Now as I drive i noticed the ABS light was on(don't know if it was on when i started the truck), and the bake brakes are engaging and squeaking. not so hard that it s un-drivable but there engaged.
You're gonna have to pull the rear wheels and hubs to check what happened....sounds like the emerg brake cable got hung up inside and prob snapped..... but no way to tell without looking. I'd start with the drivers side rear.... why???? Hell, ya gotta start somewhere and instinct is tell me that........
Sounds more like the "parking" brake hung up. Remove the rear rotors, and inside the rotor is what looks like a brake drum, complete with brake shoes. I bet they are toast, and the lining is coming off the shoes.
