I am looking to put a CB in my '70 F-100 for some off roading, any thoughts? Been lookin on CL for a cheap unit that works, just need an antenna. Lookin at a hustler brand antenna with 102" whip, too much?
Ive ran the wilson 1000 and the wilson 5000, i must say i like my 102" whip more though.... i run a superstar 121 CB, nothing special but this winter im planing on putting a Kicker on it...
honestly in a offroad I have always preferred a 36" firestick. not so big it gets ripped off and leaving you without any antenna and strong enough to take abuse. Also a pretty good antenna
i had a galaxy DX-959 in the 88, but took it out and put it in the dump truck with a wilson 5000 antenna.
i may put the DX-66V in the 88, and the DX-88HL in the 02 with wilson antennas.
Dan i got a old Cobra CB just dont have a Mic for it,,,
i also have a wilson 1000 not sure if i wanna part with it though but i still like my Whip better talks furthur than the wilson plus the wilson would get knocked off my roof when hunting
I am not very familiar with CB workings, just getting started into it. If I were to get an antenna, what parts would I need to go with them in either case (102" whip, firestick, etc.)? I've seen springs, coil, and I'm not sure what all I would 'need'. Also, I have a '70 F-100, where would be the best place to mount the antenna on her?
edit: Also, if I got a spring, would I be able to mount that directly to my bumper (or wherever else I mount it) or would I still need a stud for it?
never heard much of an advantage of a mounting location. shorter hard antennas get mounted on mirrors, toolboxes, or the corner of the bed if you don't have a toolbox. long flexible ones get mounted on a front or rear bumper and generally tied down like this pic.
You need the mounting tab cause thats whats used to go from antenna to Coax i have the 102" whip mounted on the side of my bed (96 F-150 4x4) it clips trees and all but thats okay with me if you bend the whip just take it down ammer it straight and your good to go, asfar as having the Spring, I would but thats just me, the antenna is ALOT more flexable and giving with the spring and less likely to bend
and Dan I never tie my antenna down its mounted on the bed and never is held back always straight in the air
