2005 Extented Cab rear door problem.

Hey guys I have a 2005 F250 Extended Cab truck that the passenger side rear door won't open on. I took the door panel off to see what was going on but I am still not sure. I think the bottom latch is sticking so I took the cable and tightened it by the handle but that didn't work. I tried pulling on that cable but that didn't unlatch it either. I can't exactly see what is going on down in the door where the latch is and was wondering if anyone has any pointers for me. Is there a way to unlatch it? Anyone have a picture or a diagram or something. Hard to tell by just feeling in the door what exactly is going on. Thanks.

I so wish I had taken pictures of my door latch rebuild when I did it. At the very end of the cable going to the lower latch there is an arm that releases the latch mechanism. It's not uncommon to have the head of the cable break off and there for not pull the release arm. I will try and get my door disassembled this weekend and take a few pictures to help show you what's going on.

Here is a link to my write up but I don't have pictures yet. That and I guess I'm assuming that the 05 is similar to the 02 in function. I'll try and get pic of it as soon as I can.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response and link to your door latch fix instructions. If you have a chance to get pictures that would be great! I hate to have you have to disassemble it all over again to get pictures but that would be appreciated. Thanks again.

No problem, it's already disassembled and done! Everyone here is really helpful so I like to give back when I can. Give me a few minutes and I'll have the pics posted.

Ok, your door latch should come out of the door like this. You can see where the cable attaches to a little arm which pulls the lock open, which in turn lets go of the main door latch, opening the door. I pulled this out so you would know what it looks like.

I'm making a guess that your cable is broken at the door latch or it is rusted up and full of dirt and grime like mine was. I hope just the cable broke because that will make getting this popped open a little easier that trying to fight with a seized up latch.

Try to stick a little screw driver in this area and see if you can actuate the release arm like so. Be careful not to bend that release arm if possible. You can't buy just the lower door latch so if the assemble is seized just be patient and use a good penetrating lubricant like PB Blaster, Airocroil, or what ever you perfer.

Here is a little different view.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, all I had was my camera phone. Hope this helps, keep this updated!
