I have had it with the tfi ignition on my 86 I6! I'm converting to the points set up. I have all I need but can't remember where the resistor goes. Is it inline of the positive feed before the coil. The I6 ran for decades on vacuum advance and I am reverting back to it.
Yes, to the positive of the coil. For easier starting you should incorporate the starting bypass wire in the circuit to bypass the resistor during starting.
You are not considering the duraspark II? It's one of Ford's better ideas in my opinion. It also incorporates the resistor and the bypass circuit.
The duraspark circuit is below. The resistor bypass would be hooked up the same regardless of points or electronic. But if you can't find the seperate circuit in the ignition switch, you could buy a starter relay that has two little terminals instead of one. You can hook your coil to the one labeled "i" and it will give 12 volts during starting.
