A friend of mine needs help that I hope that someone here can provide. My friend had a Trail Boss tool box (standard single-lid) installed on his new GMC Sierra in 2006. (Yes, I know that's not a Ford, but I have been unable to find help anywhere else.) He died shortly thereafter, and now neither his widow, who has no access to the Internet, nor anyone else has been able to get the lid open. This box has two rotary-style latches, one on each end of the box on the side facing the tailgate. Each latch is secured in a rectangular recess. The key can be turned from horizontal 90 degrees to vertical, which enables one to pull the handle out about one half inch, but no farther. Can anyone give me the procedure for opening these latches??? Thanks.
Thanks, MCD. I really believe that it's not a key problem. I suspect that it's something more that we have to do with the key to get the latch(es) to open; but we'll try a locksmith next. We've contacted for advice about what to do several shops that sell/service truck accessories, some that used to carry Trail Boss boxes, but none of them has helped. And, of course, we can always break into the box. The sad part is that this truck has only 6,000 miles on it, and that box has been opened and closed only twice.
Sorry that I was of little to no help...I did go looking at their website though. Couldn't find much in the way of "instructions" for their latches, but did find a contact number. Maybe you could try calling them? CONTACT US
Thanks, again. We have three addresses and phone numbers of shops/vendors in San Antonio (where this truck is and where the box was installed) that may be able to provide on-siite help. We were just hoping that someone who was familiar with this tool box latch could advise us from similar experiences with it so that we wouldn't have to trek all the way across SA for assistance. My deceased friend had to take his truck to the installer to get the box opened; then he put his tools in the box and closed it. It's not been opened since. If none of those three shops can help and if a locksmith can't, we'll have to ruin the box to get the tools out.
