The 7.3 does not have a fuel injection pump. It has an HPOP because it is a HEUI system.
Depending on where you buy $250.00 to $500.00 for a re-man or used stock HPOP. Or have your stocker upgraded for between $250.00 and $300.00. You do the labor. HPOPs very rarely break. Leak yes, break no.
A dealership would charge upward of $1400.00 or more.
You also have a high pressure oil pump (HPOP) and they last a very very very long time. The only reason they usually need to be changed is when much more HP is desired from the engine. Usually is done with higher flow injectors and larger turbos etc.
Anyone who knows anything about diesel engines in a pickup will agree that you just purchased the most reliable and dependable diesel engine that has ever been delivered in a pickup truck.
Here is some good reading with more details about how the oil system works.

The older trucks used an injector pump. Like Robin said these trucks use a high pressure oil pump to fire the injectors. They rarely fail but may leak. Click on the ford doctor link in my signature and download the hpop guide.

They must be former Cummins owners... unlike a 7.3, they have high pressure fuel pumps and lets just say, when my Cummins injection pump started to go out, well...... I became a 7.3 Owner before I had to shell out the dough on it
hahah i started to figure this was the case but i dint know they used the HEUI system but thats really cool because im about to change the number 3 and 5 HEUI injectors on the CAT7 in a M-ATV probably tomorrow haha
do the 7.3 stock injectors go out often or no? or is there a mileage limit i should replace em?
most the guys who told me about the pumps were turds who knew nothin about diesels hahah and i just laughed at them because im a diesel mechanic and i did a little lookin before i decided to go with the diesel and i like the pros more than i was scared of the cons

Haha, I find this funny....my other truck is an '02 Dodge and fortunately it had both pumps done before I got it. That being said I like both engines...so far!
Interesting. While the 5.9L Cummins has a service record which ranks right up there with the T444e, the general impression I get is that the Dodge trucks are cheaply made and inferior to the Fords. Would you say that's accurate?
