I got an old 1993 F250 parts truck with a 5.8 351 engine. im taking out the engine, rear end and and front bumper and scrapping the rest.
anyways, i want to tear apart the 351, rebuild the block then i dont know what route to take from there. i want to build it to:
-have a lot of power,
-have a lot of torque.
- be a reliable DD engine.
i want it to go under my 1994 F150 whenever its done. i was looking for some ideas on which route to take to building this engine to be strong, reliable, and DD worthy. thanks.

408 stoker!! you can get a kit for ~2k then heads and intake, fuel
Why would you want the rear end? The lugs wont match the front unless you do a HD spindle swap.
What motor does the F150 currently have? That will determine how much you need to swap along with engine.
Since its an SD motor, id do full length headers, an SD friendly cam and 6 liter tune up. That will be a major power bump over whatever you have now.
im only taking the rear end to sell it, it was pretty much a pointless addition to it.
and it has a 302. this isnt something that will be happening within the next month or so, im still putting pennies in the piggy bank for this . im just trying to get ideas of things i can do so i can check out the prices and save up til that point for it.
and define "-have a lot of power, -have a lot of torque."
think of it as.. something i can drive daily, and get decent gas mileage.. but can bring to the track and run some pretty low numbers if that makes any sense. me and my buddies like to race each others trucks a little bit so something i could drive daily, and blow them away when racing.
i know. im not looking to get the gas mileage of a prius. i dont drive far for work and any long distance i take the car. my truck will be a weekend vehicle once i do this so im not too worried on getting stock gas mileage. just not 2mpg.

decent gas mileage? like in the low 10s? or you want mid teens? stock epa on the gen 9s is 12C/17H
low numbers? as in -10sec or around 16-18s(1/4 miles)? keep in mind stock gen 9 f150s where good for about 11-13sec in the 0-60 and 1/4 in 18-20+(depending on gearing and weight) at around 85mph
what are you looking for for a HP/TQ range? 300-400, 400-500, +500, +600?
Well a stock 302 SB will do a 17sec 1/4 , a gen I lightning runs in the 15s.....Lew
gearing? keep in mind the late 80s and early 90s where plagued with tall gears.
lightnings came with 4.10s (if i remember correctly) everything thing else generally had 3.05-3.55s-ish
and i believe from previous posts the OP has 33" tires, which he may or may not keep
OP you should shoot for this! \/
Jason Brown's 95 Lightning:
7.88@179 w/ 1.14 60'
25.1-c chassis
351w svo block stroker now 440 cubes with turbonetics big thumper turbocharger
sheet metal intake
tfs r-heads [ stage 2 porting by fox lake]
96 lb injectors
accel dfi
custom headers by rieth motorsports
turbo is presently pushing 24lbs boost
spearco intercooler [ air to water]
power glide trans [ jw ultra bell ]
thats aprox 20k in engine and trans not to mention suspension and axle(s) and god know how much more in product testing
Just giving the OP some idea on times , the 17sec was a stock 302 with 3.08 gears , but thats a light 2wd reg cab short bed , the more weight , the more motor needed to run some decent times....
