Guage installation

Just got the glowshift 3 in 1 guage. Need advice on where and how to drill and tap the pyro sensor, and also the boost. Pictures would be extremely helpful. I know the trans temp to use the access plug. The others i'm a bit nervous on. I would like to do the pyro pre turbo, but a little worried about running the grindings through the turbo. Very new to all this stuff, so need the very basic methods of doing these things safely

Gauge Installations at DieselManor- 1999-2003 7.3L Powerstroke

The Pyro goes in the exhaust manifold, NOT the Down Pipe.

I drilled and tapped the spider using a 1/8 npt tap, (same for exhaust) I just disconnected the boot,, moved the IC pipe, and filled w/ paper towells, drilled, vacumed, and vacumed as I removed the paper towells.

Don't use grease on the bits, and when doing the exhaust manifold, take your time, and drill slowly, one bit size at a time. (Same on the spider, it's a very soft metal.

Drill and tap the drivers side manifold, this picture is looking up from below the truck...

As far as drilling and tapping and any shavings...

Do you live somewhere that they have turned off the gravity? If not, dont worry about it, as 99.9% of the shavings will fall down your shirt, into your hair, and burn the **** out of your hands.

Any shavings that do manage to fall up, will pass thru the exhaust side of the turbo without harm...

Boost... You can build a Brass T and splice into the MAP line, you can delete the intake air heater and install it there, or you can drill and tap the Y pipe...

for my boost location, i got rid of the AIH, and installed a cummins oil drain bolt, but first i tapped it out, for the boost fitting.

If worried about shavings, like i was, i put duct tape over my shop-vac hose, then made a tiny hole, to wedge in a straw.

when drilling put the drill bit through a paper cup to catch the shavings and safety glasses. i do not agree with one size up at a time i drilled a small hole then the right size. drilling one size at a time make the bit grab very hard. here is a pic of where mine are see

If your really scared of the small shaving after drilling the hole in the manifold if you do it that way take paper clip bend it so you can put it in the hole and move it around in there and at the other end put a strong magnet on it. That will magnatize the paperclip enough to get all the shavings out. Then you have no worries Good luck

The shavings are just going to blow through the turbo at around 400mph the second you fire it up. Plus the shavings are on the exhaust side. Not like they are going to do any damage to anything except the car next to your tailpipe. I wouldn't worry about it at all.
for the boost part, i took off the Y pipe and drilled it. I wanted an oem'ish look plus I liked the brass fitting it came with. As for the exhaust fitting. like everyone else. right on the hump.

Yeah, just idle the truck for a minute or two and all the shavings that are left will be gone. Unlike dripping and tapping a Cummins, gravity is on your side.

Dripping...LOL

I would do a cummins the same way, just stop before breaking thru and blow anything sitting on the manifold off.

Few shavings will not hurt a thing on a wheel that is expected to see 2000* EGT's from time to time.

The probe doesnt HAVE to be in the manifold which is thick and harder to drill. The up pipe will work just as well. The temps are going to be the same anywhere pre turbo.

What you never heard of the dripping technique? Haha, one row off. I know a lot of people punch through, the idle the truck for a min with the hole in the manifold to blow out the shavings. That is what I did when I had my dodge. Never had an issue.

Correct, you can install it in the up pipe with the drill and clamp... I do not prefer that method because it is prone to leaks. It is also very hard to tap because its so thin.

The prefered location is in the manifold because once done, it can be there forever.
