Need help identifying the correct timing pointer for my 302

Hi Guys,

My project came with a 302 that I have determined came out of a 1984 full sized car or truck. It didn't have a timing mark/pointer on it and I need help determining what I need.

Here is a couple pics of the timing cover.

I have the bolt holes currently plugged so I wouldn't fill them with paint so I hope you can make them out OK.
If anyone can provide a photo of what I should be hunting for or if someone has a spare laying around they are willing to sell for a few bucks that would be great.

Thanks,
Rich

It's no surprise that your engine would not have a timing pointer, since the ignition on a full size 80's Ford would have been fully computer controlled. You may not even have timing marks on your balancer, it's hard to tell from your pictures. I would suggest getting a timing tape from Summit, or other hot rod parts vendor, and making your own pointer. For your particular application, there would not have been a pointer like what would have been found on earlier engines. And it appears your timing chain cover is different enough that the earlier pointer wouldn't fit as intended.

The pully does have the single line in it. I was looking at the timing tape option as well but thought I would try and find the correct one first. It sounds like there may not have been one though so I might have to go the tape route and fab up a pointer.

Appreciate the info.
