I think I finally found an X that I would like to purchase. I need your opinions on it though. It is a 2000 V10 with a rebuilt engine. The engine has 50K miles and the guys says it is under warranty (not sure how many miles on the warranty yet). He has also replaced all front end components and has receipts. No wrecks clean carfax. Body has 250K miles on it. From the pics I've seen it looks like a very nice truck (I have not seen it in person yet). King ranch seats. Brakes need to be redone and he has all the parts to do it and will include. Asking 6000.00.
So, is this a pretty good deal and what questions should I ask him and what should I look for if I go see it in person?
I paid $7000 for mine with 94K on it. I would stay away. You should be able to get a better truck for a little more cash. If you can't afford to pay a thou or two more now you won't be able to pay the thousands you are going to dump into that one.
I paid $7000 for my 2004 with 154K and fleet maintained, with records. The right price, maybe $4000 (if it is a 4x4) may make it worth it. It may be "under warranty" but unless you read the warranty and confirm it is transferrable, you may be SOL. At 250K I would be planning to replace the following in the next 30K:
transmission*** this is a notable concern
front hub bearings
rear axle bearings
u-joints (all 4)
front axle u-joints (usually not done when the front ball joints are done)
rear end bearings/pumpkin
radiator
alternator
rear park brake shoes and backing plate
front hub auto locking seals
injectors
COP's
Does he have a documented reason for the engine failure that caused the rebuild?
Thanks for all the info guys, I didn't think of alot of the above mentioned issues that may come up soon. Not sure of the reason for the rebuild but I may go look at it just cuz and check out all he has done. Then again I may just keep looking with the laundry list of things that will need to be replaced I'm not sure I want to tackle all of that.
