New here with a lift question

Here's what I'm looking into:
6" SuperLift w/ dual shocks on the front end and singles on the rear;
38"x14.5"x16" Super Swamper Thornbirds
Eagle Alloy 143 series 16"x10"

Now I've heard a few difference answers reading around here that they'd work but others have said they wouldn't work. Could you guys please help me out here. I'm hoping to get the stuff by the end of the week to do it this weekend. Thanks guys!

Tires too big or lift too small............one of the two needs to be changed. I'd go 8" or higher to run the tires...........or step down to a 36X14.5 or 37X12 max tire size for the 6". Personally I like 35X12.5 on a 6" if you plan to off road the truck.

Hope this helps.

I would probably go w/ 36 but maybe u could go w/ 37 if your not hittin it too hard on the trail. No, come to think of it I might not even go w/ 37's. Maybe someone else can ring in and offer another opinion that would go well w/ a 6" lift.

Yeah, wants biggest tire possible.......They will fit with Bushwacker cut-out flares. A local shop did a 6" lift with 39.5/15 TSLs and cut-outs, plenty of room. Just not sure if you like cut-outs or not, but they are an option.

Could you hook me up with a link about these cut outs? Depending on price and what-not, I just might.

Here's a pic to give you an idea what they look like if you haven't seen them:

If you have the new Four Wheeler with the 6 door Ford on the cover, look in the back at the Reader's Rides..........there is the pic of the one I was talking about, it's red.

Here is a link to the company who makes them:
Bushwacker look for the cut-out flares on their site.

Hope this helps.

Also, if you don't mind me asking how did you decide on the Thornbirds .

37/12.5s would better than the 36/14.5s mainly due to their width. Beyond that, like DC said, more lift , smaller tires or cut-outs.

I don't think those flares are going to fit within my budget.

I went with the Thornbirds because they seem interesting and some of the reading on them, I like the idea of the highway tire with the side lugs that only touch when in mud or snow.

Now I need to figure out a way to rearrange my money.

Right, Thornbirds are a bias ply tire. I haven't heard many (if any) good things about Thornbirds from those who have run them......most refer to them as Thornturds .

Well alright then.... Thornbirds are out. The shop I've been getting prices from is going to get annoied by me going in so many times with item changes.

I don't want just a radial tire though. I thought maybe the Thornbird would make a good mud/road tire. Any other ideas?

Some tires to look into for a pretty good road tire and decent off road are Parnelli Jones Dirt Gripz , Swamper STS or Trxus MT, Goodyear MT/R , or BFG M/Ts .

Hope this helps.
