I have a 2002 Explorer 4x2 with 143K. Exactly a year ago I had the front wheel bearings replaced at the dealer. Now I am getting a deafening humming sound around 45mph and feel a small vibration in the steering wheel. When I get the truck up to 60 the noise gets quieter and vibration is gone. The noise also goes away when I go around a corner and returns when I straighten the wheel. Should I replace them again or live with the noise ? If I do decide to change them, this time I will do it myself. Is there one store or brand that is better when it comes to buying parts like this?
Normally bearings do not get quieter after you get to 60 MPH. Sometimes the corners will make them quiet as you said. Bearings are a good bet, but i think i would jack up each side individually under the lower A frame area and roll the tire, feel for looseness and look around.
