Since many of us never get to hang out with such a knowledgeable group of PSD people, a gathering like this is an excellent opportunity to fix small issues and even find things we didn't know were 'wrong'. There are a few things I know I ALWAYS look for when under the hood of another 7.3...
Anyway, I thought if we made a list we'd be more likely to find time to look at some of this stuff or take on these 'small projects'. Chances are we have folks who are qualified to 'look over the shoulder' while some of these projects are done - we don't need the 'experts' help with everything.
- I need help finding/fixing the short in my steering column!!
- wouldn't mind doing the door seal mod (but don't have the 'tools')
- I should change my CPS out (black one in glove box)
Someone mentioned checking ball joints, I'd be happy to bring a floor jack and pry bar - this 'check' only takes a few minutes and I'm happy to show anyone who cares what they need to look for.
We could also check and lube caliper slide pins, replace brake fluid and any other routine maintenance that is often neglected.
I can bring hole saw and we can do Marinco-mods for anyone who wants to stop at Bass Pro Shops and spend $15 on the way in!!
Sooooo, post up what you'd like help with or what you'd like to do and if ya see something YOU can help with, please respond and lets see if we can't make every truck at RRE leave working better than when it got there!!!
Jim said he's putting a 6.0 intercooler and inserts in my truck and because of my luck I'm not allowed to help. So I really wouldn't mind checking front brakes and slide pins. AE schooling would be awesome too since you made me buy it. And lastly a quick look at the steering linkage joints. That is all. Lol
I have my multimeter packed too so we can look at your column. I also have a fish tape so if you get tubing we can do your door seals.

I hope he has time for your CAC, since I'm coming after all, he'll have a chance to pull my van turbo and replace the bolts that fell out!!! I'm also buying a 6.0 CAC from Patrick - I forgot to ask him ask, but isn't installation usually included for things like this!
Re: my column short - its an intermittent thing and was only affecting OD lite (wiggle column and lite would go off), but recently I downshifted and took out fuse to gauges, TPS, etc. I've taken the plastic off and 'looked' for chaffed wires, etc - but didn't see anything suspicious. Of course, I dunno exactly where I was 'sposed to look either.........
Maybe we can both get a class on the finer points of AE, I'm sure not an expert with it yet!!
Can't wait to see y'all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hoping to leave Tulsa by lunch, get home by 2am and get up there before lunch tomorow!!
I also have a fish tape so if you get tubing we can do your door seals.
Sweeeeet!! I'll pick up enough to do a few trucks as well as some silicone spray, this is something others will prolly wanna do as well! What size tubing/backer rod do YOU recommend??
How much brake fluid is required for a flush?
A couple pints is plenty. If we get a few people who want to do this, we should just buy a gallon. I highly recommend doing this - its EASY and cheap!!
I am wondering what the door seal mod is.
Adding tubing or foam 'backer rod' to the existing door seal makes them seal better and reduces wind/road noise inside the truck. Also mitigates Excursion rear door 'rattle'. Again, cheap and easy (with the fish tape!!).
I will sponsor both of these 'mods' for anyone who wants to do them - just lemme know and I'll make sure we have enough tubing and brake fluid to go around!!

3/8 tubing. For a crew or X I would recommend 50'-60'. Try to buy it in one length. The 10' rolls that home depot sells doesn't cover a complete door and it's a PIA trying to join them together.

I just did this on Monday thinking I had a short so all the useful forum posts and pics are still fresh in my mind. Won't take but 20 minutes or so
I have my soldering iron and did my overhead console repair last night (my first one).
I also need some help in learning more about AE. All I know about it is that I can't find anything wrong with my truck. Since there is nothing wrong, surely it will help me find a way to do something better.
I think that I am the one that needs the lesson in ball joints. I just don't know how to check them.
I'll probably finish up my last two door lock fixes if anyone wants to see how it's done. Once I tore up the first one the second one was a breeze. Seriously! Also thought about installing a drain plug on my ic, with a hose and plug. Was told that excessive build up in ic could lead to higher egt's and thought I could randomly check it. Heck I'd
Even settle for just pulling it and seeing what comes out of it. Would anyone have the supplies there to catch and reuse my coolant?
I would like to do a power steering fluid flush. And would love to hook up my new 2010mirrors so my lights and turn signals would work. I have new 9 pin plugs I got from raido shack to plug them together just need to run all the wires.
