i have a 302 in my 95 f150 and on a tight budget and was given some good advice about which cam to use the Compcams 35-512-8 and running 1.7 roller rockers i am wondering what kind of hp increase i can exspect from each addition. im on kind of a tight budget so looking to get the most bang for the buck.
you need to address the horrible heads that came on the truck, in addition to a cam, if you want to get any power from that 302. dont expect much from doing one or the other, but together it wakes up the motor quite a bit.
If you want bang for buck, do headers and a custom Y-pipe then new exhaust. If you've already done that then I'd say go for the cam. Rockers are super easy to swap down the road.
the cam in your 95 is a decent cam,1.7 rockers will help open it up more,as will headers and complete exhaust. I put the 1.7 rockers and long tube headers on my 95 5.0,it woke it up quite a bit, still need to do a gear swap to get in engines optimum rpm range, but thinking of a 5.8 swap,so gears are going to wait for awhile.

I think the suggestion was either/or.. not both since...
a) 1.7 rockers with the stock cam will produce pretty much the same results as the 35-512-8 with the stock(1.6) rockers.
b) 1.7 rocker and the 35-512-8 may produce more valve lift than the heads can handle
thank you. i never got to get much done on that truck as it got totaled out but i bought a 96 with the 5.8 and i pulled with it for the first time yesterday and wow what a difference over pullin with the 302 in my 95. and im guessing that the rockers or cam along with the exhaust will be the same as what i was wanting to do to my 302.
