My 92 f150 not only gets lousy mpg but the exhaust stinks really bad. I have other cars and trucks and do not notice this with them, but the f150 just walking behind it you GOTTA hold your breath. Any ideas guys? Thanks a heap
have you gotten your exhaust redone lately? after i got a new cat and muffler put on my truck the new cat made a horrible stench. it was unbarrable, but after a while it went away.
well, the other possibility is that your cat(s) is bad and/or plugged. This would explain the smell, and if its plugged, it will significantly increase your backpressure resulting in poor gas mileage. Another consideration; have you noticed a decrease in power? This is often a symptom of a plugged cat as well
good luck

Well your bad gas mileage tells me you running way rich thus causing your smell.
Have you had a MIL (check engine light) come on, or blink when you start it or after it just warms up?
If you have, you need to pull the check codes, and see if something is malfunctioning.
If no light, do a good tune up, and go from there.
