My neighbor hasca 01 EB with the 5.4 truck stalled the other night. We got him home and figured out the fuel pump wasn't turning on. We than checked the fuse box under hood. The fuel pump fuse was blown changed it and all seemed fine. He said truck still felt sluggish. Figured change the fuel filter yesterday and he said it seemed better. This morning he was driving and it shut off on him again. Fuse was blown again he changed it and it immediately blew again he is thinking the pump is the problem but why would it blow the fuse??
It sounds like the pump is just worn out and the armature is no longer being held centered. The result of this wear is the brushes can end up making contact with two windings at the same time, causing an overload. I think he's going to be changing the pump to fix this.
Ok well changed the pump and still blowing the fuse when the key is turned on???
Well didn't that just make everyone's day.
There's not too much that can be causing the fuse to blow at this point, other than a short in the wiring. I've attached the fuel pump wiring diagram so that you will know the wire colors. I'd start by unplugging the connector from the inertial fuel shutoff switch (passenger kick panel.) Then see if the fuse still blows. If it does the short is in the DG/YE wire. If it doesn't blow, the short is in the PK/BK wire. By doing this you'll at least cut your searching in half.
Thanks alloro do you have the rest of the diagram where the wires go after they stop on this one? Thanks in advance
I do but they won't do you any good. That image contains all of the fuel pump motor wiring. There is no more wiring, other than a wire running to the dash for the fuel gauge.
