Interesting.....Our shop buys $10-15K of Napa parts a month with very few warranty repairs. Certainly not any more than any of our other suppliers.
Ditto. Although I buy everything from Ford for my personal vehicles.
Here's an idea, and I'm not saying it to be a jerk.....
If you want quality, quit being a cheap *** and just buy from Ford. The definition of stupidity has something to do with doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
This country needs to get over "cheap". You DO get what you pay for and if you pass up a $120 part at Ford just to save $20 by purchasing at NAPA/CarQuest/Autozone/etc., then you're begging for getting the shaft.
The crack addict Ford dealer here wants 340.00 for that pump and I can't exactly drive to a Ford dealer, Then wait for the idiots to order it, while I'm broke down on the side of the road now can I? It was 120 or so from Napa but that wasn't why I got it from them. They were the ONLY thing around every time it broke. No choice.
I got the two I could find receipts for replaced this morning for free. I couldn't find my lawyer and they refused to give me a new belt. It's not over yet. I almost killed a family when this thing broke this time in a big yukon I think. It's not easy coming off the interstate then stopping suddenly without vacuum.
I'm ordering one from parts guy ed to put on it asap. I have two pulleys. I'll keep one of the new napa ones in my truck tool box with a pulley on it just in case at all times and put the ford one on.
Ford is not necessarily going to give you a quality part. Motorcraft brake drums and pads are made in China. Big tool mark in one of the drums I got too, but still functional. Pay big money even for cheap Motorcraft Chinese junk.
Ford couldn't even figure out to put more than 2 grease fittings under the front end of these trucks! Hard to tell me that their parts will be better than any other parts!
Speaking of grease fittings, did you know that on the 4x4's with a double cardan joint up front there is a grease fitting on the factory one. It's a flush fitting and you need a needle fitting for it. It's a good idea to give it a good shot of it. They aren't cheap!

I have AT LEAST 6 that I know of in the front of my truck.
I will be sure to squirt some in mine RR! Thanks for the tip! ToMang, I have not had any luck finding 6 in my front end. I guess I will have to search a little harder!
Factory ball joints don't have any that I have ever seen. All the tie rods should though. That's 4 at least.
Anyone know what kind of oil is SUPPOSED to be in the vacuum pump? Since I've had such luck I was thinking about changing it out with some sort of synthetic.
Good question: I just changed my vacuum pump a few months ago and that's something I don't want to have failing on me again!
If there is supposed to be oil in these pumps, then what kind of oil should it be and how do you do this??

^^^^3X
Just replaced mine a couple weeks ago as well, and I'd like to check into this as well. Maybe a good synthetic gear oil? Synthetic Grease? Motor Oil?
I read somewhere it's motor oil. It goes in the little screw on the back of it. The stuff that was in this one was not engine oil. It was thicker than gear oil and green.
Is there a core charge on the vac pumps?
I'd love to get an old/extra one and take it apart and see how it works/fails.
No core charge on mine. It is on the shelf in my shop. Some time when you're down towards Wooster let me know and I'll let you have it and take a look at it. I live in Wooster and work in Orrville, so give me a shout sometime when you're headed down this direction and I'll toss it your way. I guess I could just open it up myself and post some pics as well.....
