Porting and polishing
Porting and polishing
Ok here is what's going on I looked for an hour through posts can't find one about it so I figured I would post one.
I have an 86 6.9 I am in the very beginning of the rebuild I'm looking at a minimum of .10 over bore head studs full bottom rebuild including oil pump, and main stud kit. Top end is getting the heads rebuilt and the whole engine is getting painted and a turbo.
Getting to the point I'm wanting to port and polish the heads I'm wanting to open up the water jackets and clean up all the casting imperfections in the intake ports and exhaust ports I know I can't hurt anything as long as I don't damage the gasket face or the valve seals, but other than polishing the combustion chamber to help lower carbon build up is it really gonna make a difference? Heck to be honest I can't find anywhere any information on someone even porting and polishing a diesel

while your waiting for a response,i just wanted to share this;

if for any reason,my engine was going to be out of the truck,it wouldn't go back in without the custom grind cam.

if your running a turbo your not gonna get enough gain for the effort of porting and polishing. you would get more out of it if you left it n/a but imo still not worth the time, money and effort.
I was wondering the same thing myself. As far as gains go, I think that smoothing out the air flow in and out would benifit n/a or turbo. Smoother air flow means less restriction therefore more air in and out. Same as useing a smooth wall tube for the intake rather than a corrugated flex type. And unlike a gasser the intake can be polished all the way. No need to leave it rough for fuel atomization as ours is injected after the air is in there and compressed.
Kenpobuck I will be honest I didn't even think about the fact that we don't have to worry about atomization I know since my intake doesn't change I planned on polishing as much as I can on the inside anyway
