Gary, how do the gases pulled from the evap canister get back into the combustion chamber? The PCV would supply positive pressure, mix with the fumes in the canister and get sucked into the intake manifold through the middle vacuum connection?

Ralph (81-F-150-Explorer) hasn't been on FTE since last March, and in 80-86 in ~1 year now. I think we're on our own....

The Positive Crankcase Ventilation system should always be in negative pressure. If it is positive then you have huge amounts of blow by, a cracked piston , etc. But you are on the right track. When the purge control valve opens the vacuum in the intake manifold sucks the gas fumes out of the canister and they combine with the vapor from the crankcase and get burned.

Which is a huge loss - both in knowledge and in character.

Yes, I agree, I learned a lot from him.

Last time this happened, it was his ex-wife who was to blame. No idea this time....
