The truck has been sitting mostly for a couple of years.
Started it up and drove about 50 miles and it quit .
Fiddled around and kept trying it and it started again and went another few miles and quit again.

What does your filter look like? Is it black? That's an indicator of algae. When it's running, how well is it running? Does it seem to run when cool, but not when hot? Is the oil fresh and/or clean?
The mechanical fuel pump is on top in the middle of the valley behind the fuel filter. Just under the turbo mount. Between 1-10 on difficulty, I think the fuel pump is a 6. I don't think that's your problem, though.
I'd look at the wires running into the valve covers. Look for melted or scorched ones. Also, the IPR could have bad o-rings or a rat chewed through the wires.
