Hi, I haven't been in for some time but Im back working on my effi and need a little help. I have a 54 f100 with a volare front end with disc brakes and a ford 9" with drum brakes. last weekend on my way to local show I was informed I had no brake lights. I got her home and installed a new fuse and she blew as soon as I hit the brake. Tail and turns work fine so I no its probably a short but dang if I can find it. all my wires look good so I wondering if my brake light switch might be defective. any thoughts woul be greatly appreciated. electricity is not my strong point [uh] come to think of it I don't have any strong points, what ever you can think of checking I'll do. Bill
Your switch could be bad but usually they fail to complete the circuit and not go to ground. You may just have a bad spot in the wire that runs the brake lights. Electricity dosen't need a very big hole to go to ground!
So, lets check the brake light switch, disconnect both wires off the switch, replace the fuse, touch the two brake light wire together, four things can happen, the brake lights come on (switch defective), the fuse blows (short somewhere else), nothing (damned if I know) and everything catches fire (tough, your on own now).
