Mike, that is the 9 pin connector on the drivers side valve cover. It connects to run the injectors and glow plugs under the valve cover. There is a clip that helps keep it connected. I've attached a link to Clay's site with the connector in question.
Not sure if you need to replace the connector or not though.
You need to pull the valve cover and fix the harness...likely it will just be loose and you can plug it back in. Then fix with a quarter ground down as a shim...see the thread I gave you in post #2. Sometimes the harness has chafed through on the inside rubbing against something...then you would have to repair the harness or replace it.

Can I just get a clip to hold it together? That seems to be the only problem. If I could just hold it together. The tie-wrap worked good long enough to get it moved.
Thanks. Do you know which part has the retainer clip, the pigtail or the connector base?
Mike
There is a little clip on the pigtail or harness side that locks into the connector base. Either one could break and cause it not to lock in properly. I would take off the other side so you can compare. Just don't break the other side.

Good idea! Thanks. If it is on the pigtail side what is the best way to splice in the new pigtail?
remove all air cleaner to turbo ducting. remove Intercooler tube. remove the CCV dog house and unbolt the 42 pin connector. like Neil and others have said you will probably find a loose connector. Give the inside of the connectors a good hard look to make sure nothing is burnt or loose.
