I just removed my egr valve and I need some help on how to properly clean it, also will cleaning this often as well as regular coolant flushes prevent cooling issues?
It stops working sometimes, the cleaner destroys the rubber seal for the shaft. Ford has a foaming carb cleaner that works great just use gloves when you use the stuff alott stronger than the regular stuff.
Someone told me to use brake cleaner to clean the valve, what do yall think about that?
Do NOT use brake cleaner. Ford has specific instructions about it destroying the EGR valve. Use Carb cleaner or set it upright in a small container of purple power. You don't want any liquid getting inside the valve.
I may have got some cleaning solution on the upper part of the egr valve, is it a good idea just to go ahead and leave it uplugged. I had it uplugged all day yesterday prior to me pulling it off for cleaning and didnt notice any negative affects on my truck, the CEL never came on and ran fine all day unplugged? What are your thoughts on this?
If the EGR valve has problems, you will most likely notice (and get codes). Just be aware, that a poorly functioning EGR system can cause a lot of soot generation, which can cause issues in the turbo eventually. It is well worth it to maintain the health of ALL your combustion system. Little issues can "domino" into bigger ones.
One reason I keep the EGR system is because it tells a LOT about combustion efficiency. Pull it routinely (6 mos or annually) and see if the soot is dry powder that comes off easily, or if there is oilly sludge or tarry material.
Works perfect now that it's deleted.......................with the CCV dryer installed now, I bet it would have stayed clean. That CCV oil really fouls the intake and the valve, a CCV mod is truly beneficial on these engines.

It's an 04 and unless it has a "California flash" it won't set a CEL although leaving it unplugged may affect cooling fan operation.
If i screwed up the EGR Valve by allowing cleaner through the weep hole will disconnecting it prevent it from staying open and allowing all the exhuast gas to flow to the manifold?
