Question 4.9l head gasket differences

Hi all,
I am hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. I have an 89 F250 4x2 with a 4.9l. The motor has been replaced with a 95 4.9l. I need a new head gasket for it since it blew. I checked online at autozone and plugged in 89 not thinking at first that the motor is a different year. My question is what is the difference of the 2 motors? They come up with 2 different part numbers but look the same, of course the 95 is also more expense. Thanks

I believe that you need the '95 set. The difference may not be the head gasket itself, but for the set, is going to be design difference that relate to different year. Are you just changing the head gasket and nothing else? The gasket may be the same, but for the set there are difference for other things from the head up. If I was pulling the head, and could afford it, I would take it to the machine shop and let them do the basics to it. Valve's, guide's, seals. It's a lot of work to get the head off, so I would go one step further since it's not something you want to do again in 20K miles.

Just my $.02.

+1 and would be great time for rings too! While the head is off it would be easy to do and not that expensive to do.
