Open Space Just Begging for Something

Hey all you 2WD'ers! Did you know there's a very large, vacant space between your truck's frame rails where the transfer case would've gone? There's even a nicely formed saddle spanning the width. Got me thinking, to what use could i put this? Possible ideas:

> a 12kW generator powered off your tranny's pto port
> a large water reservoir with tubing and atomizers rigged to spray water on your heat exchangers during high temp situations
> a hidden waterproof storage bin to carry valuables or personal protection gear
> a survival kit
> a LiOn battery that can power an auxillary DC motor that powers the rear wheel to allow creep motion during traffic jams without running the engine

What else?

How about a transfer case? Just kidding of course.

I like the idea of a nice hidden stow-away compartment would work quite well, kind of like a safe beneath the carpet to keep your valuables out of sight. It would make Han Solo proud for sure.

You could bolt up a mil-spec mortar box. Good 'ol government surplus. Looks like a really big ammo can. It has a sealed lid and is pretty spacious.

Filling up the space with air would help keep the weight down and increase fuel mileage.

im thinking and have been thinking about this as a mod .. custom enlarged fuel tank connected to original fuel tank ( that way you will have to not worry about a second fuel sender or float switch or a switch to switch between tanks) .. can you say road trip

Because you feel the need to spend even more time
@ the pump to put in 60+ gallons vs. 40+.

Why not put a 50cal under there. It would add a new dimension to urban assault vehicle.

But if you are at 1/4 tank or less and on a slope toward the front of the truck the rear tank will all drain out into the new reserve and the truck won't start.

Great point! I had avoided tech comment....

The reserve would also need to be plumbed such that
fuel flowed from the bottom (risk over curbs/rocks)
plus it would need a vent on top in order to fill via that
same line.

Not that it can't be done, I just think it's none trivial.
I can't drive 10 hours w/o a bio break - so there
is no real advantage to me to having 100 gallons.

but.....

Maybe convert the driver seat into a toilet, put a
"black water" tank under there - THEN you would NOT
have to stop driving for days!

Now that is an idea! A black water tank and possibly a fresh water tank just next to it and a spigot out the dash.

Why not an air compressor tucked up there with one of those "ratcheting" air hoses...one never knows when they need air on the road!...but I would guess 4x4'rs could use it for when we come off the sand and have aired down on the tires...

I like the black tank idea...my girls always make me stop...but too bad I've got a 4x4!

Misky...if I weren't in rep-ression...I'd send you some forum love for that idea!!!
