That's exactly when I get that weird clunk I described in my first post. First 20-50 feet. What sort of symptoms are caused by this a bad stator clutch?
Slow launch. The one way clutch is used for torque multiplication. If it doesn't work the torque converter is just a fluid coupling. With it the torque converter can double engine torque in the first 50 feet or so.

There is a band adjustment. I don't have the procedure for it, but you could find it if you looked.

I heard about that torque multiplier being more badass than a manual truck for towing. Pretty damn sweet if you ask me. Could that torque be matched with a man trans, if I had it in 1st gear aka granny and in 4 wheel low?

Easily, a C6 has a 2.46:1 first gear. Your second gear probably has a higher ratio than that. (Numerically)
Plus, you won't be doubling the torque very often. The torque increase on a dyno won't be a whole lot. You will get the most multiplication when you are moving at a low speed with a lot of throttle. Like for spinning tires, but the stock converters aren't good for that; they are designed to slip less throughout the rpm range. A transbrake shows the true potential of an automatic.

So that's at least one of my problems here. Can these clutches intermittently work and cause that "clunk" I get when my trans acts up?

I will look into it.
BTW, this is the transmission I was talking about wanting to get. Around $970 including shipping. Probably looking at about $1100 or so to get the trans, new TC, new fluid...ain't looking quite as good now, but oh well...lol
