Ok guys my AC is not working all of the time. When it works it works great, 39 degrees out of the vents. AC clutch doesnt always kick in. The pressures seem good and Im sure that I am not low on coolant. I think that this is an electrical problem. I have tried wiggeling wires and connections but no noticable changes. Any ideas?
Have you checked the gap of the clutch? When its blowing warm try tapping the clutch to see if it engages, could just be worn clutch, I personally removed my shims to close the gap, check out this thread Clutch Air Gap should be similar situation if your clutch is not spinning
Ok I did some more checking and if I hotwire the clutch it engages right away. I have power to the low pressure switch and through it, I bypassed it just to be sure but no change. The high pressure switch has four termanals and I do have power on one of them. Any ideas? How can I check the high pressure switch?
also in the first post I said "coolant" when I shoud have said refregerant
Did you check the air gap like Alan suggested in post #3? Hotwiring the clutch would likely provide enough juice to the electromagnet so it engages. Then it will get hot after a while and let go again. Your symptoms sound like an air gap issue to me.
You may not have noticed but Alan's post has a link to another thread where this issue is discussed in more detail. (just pointing this out in case you missed the link...)
Yes I have checked the air gap and it is good, sorry I forgot to mention that. I also tried tapping on it and it will not engage. I am not getting battery voltage to the ac compressor. The problem is not intermitant anymore-- it doesnt work at all.
You have a PCM-controlled clutch. The series circuit of the cycling and high pressure containment switches serve as an input to the PCM. The PCM, unless operating parameters preclude it, issues a command to energize the A/C clutch relay which, when energized, switches power from CJB F10 to the clutch coil.
The containment switch should be normally closed between the RD/YE and the TN/LG wires.
Check the fuse. See if the relay energizes, etc...
