Wont start

Truck was running fine no issues. My wife took it to get it washed for me and came home and parked it. I went to move it and it wont start. Seems like pulsating power. For instance all the relays keep clicking and any lights flicker. I have turboguage hooked up and it keeps restarting.

Only things I have done recently are new brakes, new plugs and coils, and new pulleys and belt. None of that should be causing this issue. Could this be a bad solenoid? My battery shows full charge but on the dash its showing around 8 volts. Any ideas on what I can try to figure this out?

On a side note just wanted to say thanks to everyone out there helping each other out. I fixed my actuators, overhead console, and even took advice for my plug change all from reading on these forums.

I had this happen to me recently. Drove truck, pulled into gas station, filled up the tank. Got in, turn key...nothing happens...was already having a bad day, so I called the wife to try to get it jumped...she shows up...hook up cables, turn key...nothing. Totally hacked off at this point, so I just said f-it, I called AAA. Guy shows up 15 minutes later, asks what's going on and I tell him. He gets behind the wheel, turns key, nothing. Gets up, take a look at the front wheel..hmm...turns key to run position, puts the truck into D, then back in park. Turns key to start truck, VRROOOOMMMM starts right up. I'm like WTF!!!! ...he said, the wheel was slightly turned to the left, sometimes the ford safety switch in the column doesn't like it when the wheel is turned, putting it in gear then back in park 'reset' the switch...anyway, you might want to try that first! man, was I embarrassed!! ...hopefully it's something simple like that for you.

He fed you a line of crap. There's no such switch in the column....

Check the battery with a meter. Either the battery has failed, or you have a bad battery cable or battery cable connection.

Yeah I took the cables apart cleaned them well. It kept seeming like it was a starter issue. I went out bought new starter jumped the battery and fired up drove it down the road came back and when I went to park it went haywire.

Lights started flickering again. Relays clicking. My OD on was flashing off and on??? My turboguage through a code for p0720 Seen that it could be an alternator issue which makes some sense. When she brought the truck back yesterday and I went to start it , it was only showing 8 volts.

However just went back out after reading it could be alternator and was about to start it up and when I put the key in OD still flashing off and on. Lights flickering. No juice to start it after its been running for 20 mins. Battery shows 12.6+ volts. And the wipers went on their own. This is all adding up to a computer problem I would think. I remember years ago my dads car doing all that and it was a computer.

My truck had the exact same symptoms when my ground cable was corroded inside the battery terminal end. I cleaned it a couple times to fix it, but it kept getting more corrosion. I finally just ordered a factory Ford replacement ground cable and the problem has been solved for over a year. I got mine from RockAuto.com because their price can't be beat and they are a sponsor of FTE.

Just got done putting all new battery cables in. It didnt do anything. You said you cleaned the corrosion and still could drive it. I already cleaned the corrosion before changing cables and I could not even start it. Still same issues lights flicker, wipers come on for one time by themselves, relays click. I think im going to try the ecm and see what happens. I will just buy a used one I called around and all the local auto parts store including the ford dealership said there is none out there.

Found a used working one on ebay from salvage yard for 100.00 its worth the try I think. Any other suggestions please feel free. Thanks for the help so far.

Well finally fixed the issue. It was starter and battery. The starter was bad which I changed and I did not realize to test a battery you did it under load. I use to just use a battery fluid tester. I didnt have mine anymore and figured I could just use a multimeter on the battery terminals. After alot of reading people said it can show 12.6 with no load even on a bad battery. Projectsho89 you hit the nail on the head. Thanks for the help guys.
