Hey Guys,
I am in the mountains of Colorado and have a bad hub. I thought it would be better and cheaper to put on some Warm hubs. I have looked online to find the Warn hubs and they show available for a 2003 Ford Excursion. The guy at the auto shop told me when he called his supplier, they said they didn't make them or couldn't get them for the Excursion. I have read that you need an adaptor or part of some sort and that the center caps won't fit with the Warn premium hubs? What is the difference between the Premium and the regular Warn hubs. Need some advice quick, want to get them ordered today. Anyone have any experience?
Thanks!
Steve
Do you know if they will fit a 2003 specifically? I talked to someone at a parts place and they said I would need a locking hub service kit and spindle nut?
Thanks!
I had Warn hubs put on and still makes noise. It takes driving about 5-6 miles to start, it's sort of a chirping sound and at higher speeds turns into a squealing type sound. When I am braking, it stops. Seems to be a bit worse on acceleration. The shop said the checked the brakes and the wheel bearings are tight, no movement in the wheels. Talked to the guy at the shop today and he thought it may be a bad U-joint. I had thought of that too, but I have never had one go bad so I don't know what to expect. If it is a u-joint, should I have them all replaced, I have over 140K on the Excursion. Thanks for any help.

I have never had hubs or wheel bearings or u-joints chirp or squeal. Grinds and/or knocks and/or metal scraping are usually the result when one of those is giving trouble.
Sure sounds like brakes.
When it happens, does either wheel hub get hot? Do both turn freely?
Could be you have a caliper sticking or maybe the master cylinder is not allowing the fluid to return properly into the reservoir.
The reason I ask is because I had an 02 f-250 the the driver side steering u-joint went bad and destroyed my hub. It went bad really quick too. I never had it squeak but it locked up and when I tried to turn in my driveway it destroyed my hub. I would say squeaks or chirps start at the brakes but dont forget about that u-joint

I'm not sure I've gotten everything completely straightened out but the hub just wouldn't manually lock, it was frozen. I don't believe that was the problem. Still had noises after replacement. They found a brake issue (rusty caliper) and cleaned them a bit which did help some. I made it home fine but I need to have the brakes checked out good. Thanks again for everyones help.

I have warn premium hubs on my 2001. I wasn't sure if I needed extra parts when I ordered mine...because some applications do need some adapters and such. It turns out I didn't need anything extra. They work great, and have for many years.
I had a problem with whirring noises, intermittent squealing and other noises coming from the front hubs when I put them in. Sometimes my 4wd would stop working. I actually got stranded on a 4wd run in the snow because my hubs would not engage. It took two jeeps to winch me up a hill because of it. It turns out the problem was the c-clip inside the hub was worn, and would pop out of place on my right side hub. This allowed the spindle to wobble, which is what caused the noise. (it sounded like when you try to put a manual transmission in gear without pushing on the clutch). When the warn hub was removed, everything looked fine. But, that c-clip would not keep the spindle tight, resulting in movement. Ford does not sell the c-clip by itself. Somehow my mechanic found some (thank God).
I don't know if that is your problem, but it was sure a headache for me!
I too have the Mile Marker 449SS hubs on mine. From what I understand the Warn are the exact same install with no adapters or anything needed. Very simple. Also, I highly doubt that either the Warn or Mile Marker hubs would be the cause of any noise from the "hub" area. There's lots of other components up there that I would suspect first.
