1996 7.3 powerstroke pulley fell off???

OK guys one of my pulleys just fell off..........so as you are looking at the engine from the front I think it is a idler pulley.....its the one just to the left of and below the tensioner pulley.......the one with 8 grooves the only numbers on it are 818 and just opposite of that is the letter "R" so what is this pulley called and does anyone have any part numbers for it........I want a real good one to replace so anyone know where to get one............I think I should also replace the one just above and to the right of the tensioner pulley......it also is a integral part of the alternator frame or piece that holds the alternator on..........I think I also should replace both of those bolts holding the pulleys............do they turn right or left to get out..........

1996 f250 7.3 powerstroke mostly stock.......engine is all stock

Thanks in advance for the replys.

If the pulley isn't connected to anything (Just the pulley) Then it is the idler pulley. I believe they are regular threaded bolts, its been a long time since I replaced mine. When mine went out the whole bearing assembly exploded.

Thanks for the response, I just ordered the ribbed and smooth pulleys from some folks on amazon.com......The ribbed was a motorcraft and the smooth was a ACDelco.......both were about 28.00 each......free shipping

The ribbed motorcraft part number was YS268 don't remember what the smooth number was but found a smooth one with a number of 38022

Thanks guys

Got a bolt for 5.00

would also suggest replacing the tensioner assembly. I can vouch for the GATES one being a good replacement. They only last about 100k miles and the factory ones were known to go bad prematurely.

The bolts (idler pulley) on ours are all standard threads. We use the blue locktite so they don't back out.

I need a 7 groove pulley for my altinator. I have a 6 groove on there now and it's taring up the belt (long story). Lets just say Advanced auto got rid of my core before i realized I didn't swap the pulleys

Why are some trucks 6, 7 or 8?

Finding a 7 groove is hard, might just order an 8 groove...

I would go to AutoZone and see if they have the right one.
I remember the same thing happening to me. Advanced only had the smaller pullied alts. while AutoZ only carried the big ones.

You can even just get a standard 6203 bearing for like $6 and press it back in, you don't need a whole new pulley.

I'll hav to stop by AutoZone and see if they'll sell me a pulley.

Can I just put an 8 groove pulley on if I can find one?

I also just remembered, I'm in the process of putting A/C on my truck and that pulley is only 6 groove also.

Oh the fun!
