oil pressure loss

I had 35psi at idle this morning and pretty much sense I have had the truck. Decided to take the truck into work and 15 miles in I stopped and the at idle oil pressure was 0! When I got back onto the freeway the oil pressure went up 35 psi it used to be at 60. I just put in new lifters and did an oil change. 10w 40 oil. What would cause the rapid oil pressure loss. It also still have a ticking when come to a stop which sounds from the top end (why I changed the lifters) it only does it between 1500rpm and 1000. I really hate this engine. Nothing but problems from it.

That ticking is probably your lifters from lack of oil. One of 3 things I can think of.
1. You messed something up doing the oil change.
2. Mains are going out.
3. Oil pump is going out.

You'd better figure it out while you still have an engine. FE engines are quite stout and bullet proof if done properly. Nothing wrong with 10W40 oil in her. That's what I run in my 428CJ with no problems.

Don't think I messed up the oil change. Kinda hard to do that. Oil is right in the proper level, can you pull the oil pan with it still in the truck 75 f150 4x4? This truck has been cursed sense I got it.

Yes you can pull the pan with it in the truck. Did this start after the oil change??? It could be a collapsed oil filter with a bad bypass valve. What filter are you using 1515 Wix or FL1a Motorcraft I hope? The oil pumps almost never go bad , but what can go bad is the gasket between the oil pump and the block and then oil just bypass right back into the pan. Or it can be a blocked oil filter screen, how clean is the engine inside???

Its a fram. I will try the oil filter when I go to go home. The oil is nice and clean. I cleaned up the valley when doing the lifters pretty good. The ran it for a short bit then did the oil change. Only about 30 miles on the oil change if that before this happened.

I'd make sure the gauge is functioning properly before I tore into anything.

Inside it was pretty clean inside when I pulled it apart. I just cleaned out the old gasket.

Fram = Orange can of Death.
Many have heard the rumors of a Fram filter that disintegrated. I've seen it 1st hand...... It looked like someone stuffed a roll of toilet paper into the oil filler, and it went everywhere inside the oil passages......
Was about 20 years ago, and I haven't bought a Fram filter since.

Changed the oil filter. Fired it up and got 60psi at idle. Think great. Drive home and it drops right back down to 0 psi at idle and 35 at 65mph. Thinking the oil pickup screen must be getting plugged.

The other possibility is your guage is malfunctioning. Is this the factory guage? My temp guage would get real far to the right, to the point of scaring me, oil would get real low on warmup. I hooked up a set of mechanical guages and temp never gets warmer than 190 deg and oil is 50 psi cold, 30 warm.

I would suspect clogged screen! Does this engine by chance still have the stock timing gears??? The plastic teeth break off and clog up the screen!! Thats what happened to my 360!
